Cellular Jail

Pilgrimage of National freedom struggle it was constructed during 1906 freedom fighters under penal settlement were sent to this Cellular Jail(National Memorial). The most prominent persons were Vir Savarkar, Bangeswar pal, Barin Ghose etc. During the Japanese occupatio Netaji Subash Chandra Bose had hoisted the Tri colored flag at the premises of the jail, has a supreme commander of the INA.

Fisheries museum

Situated near Cellular jail and it exhibits species of marine life such as corals fishes etc. found in these islands.

Anthropological museum

Treasure of these islands is its primitive tribes, Great Andamanies, Jarwa, Ongi and Sentinalies are the four Nigrito tribes available in the Andaman groups and Nicobar groups of islands. This museum describes the details of the tribes.

Samudrika Museum

Samudrika (Neval Marine museum) is a good collection of shells, corals, fishes etc. found in these islands.

Andaman and Nicobar Islands

An archipelago of 572 islands, covering an area of 8249 Sq.Km are spread over 780 Km from North to South in the Bay of Bengal. The Andaman group of islands is 219 miles length and its extreme width is not more than 32 miles. The group is deviled into three parts namely North, Middle and South Andaman, Port Blair is the capital of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The other group is Nicobar group, the important island in that group are Car Nicobar, Katchal, Grate Nicobar etc.The climate of these islands is tropical with average rainfall of 3180 mm. From May to October is the monsoon period.

It is believed that the name of the Andaman Islands came from the name of the legendary hero "Hanuman". However, Marcopolo during his visit has described about this islands and its inhabitants. After the revolt of 1857, the British Government decided to develop these islands as a prison, there after all the freedom fighters and revolutionaries were shifted to these islands. the need for a jail was felt and the Cellular jail with a capacity of about 700 cells was constructed bringing all required civil items from Burma. During the second world war the islands were in the control of Japanese. The barbaric tortures of the Japanese is also accounted for.

Apart from the above, the island is having about 80% cover of tropical forest and rich with forest resources. The greenery and unpolluted nature is the best attraction for any one coming from any metropolitan cities. The nature has blessed these islands with its beauty. Long starches of sea beaches, clear water and solitaries is the unique attraction to the tourist. The coral marine life, Flora and Fauna has attracted the people from all corners of the world.
